Great food, dreadful service. What a shame! Two visits to this gastro-pub, with the food hitting the mark each time. A great variety of seasonal foods and wine. Unfortunately they tend to employ non-English speaking staff and not train them resulting in confusion over whether the order was for a starter or a main course. A request to wrap up the remains of my dinner to take away resulted in the waitress tipping the food into the bin!

This is one of the earliest Gastro Pubs in London, and won the Time Out best Gastro Pub in London award in 1999. Still owned by the same people this is my local, and one of my favourites.
During the day the trade is mostly for the food, which is excellent modern gastro food, with a touch of the exotic - springbok, alligator, - that sort of thing. In the evening it has a hard core after work set, and there is plenty of drinking and eating, although it can get very loud, which of course is a good thing.
Main meals are reasonable and the starters are big enough for a lunch portion.
Usually very busy, but quieter for Sunday lunch with the papers.
