Smiths of Smithfield
your comments review this restaurant
What can I say? Probably the coolest bar in an area where it is absolutely happening. Turnmills and Fabric within spitting distance, along with gems such as the Dovetail (serving very strong Belgian beers), Crown Tavern and 3 Kings just around the corner. It is a large former warehouse with exposed timbers and cast iron columns with canteen style benches and tables. In the far corner, some very comfy leather sofas which are almost always occupied. Tip: Come early for this. Upstairs (4 floors in total, incl ground) are private rooms, cocktail bars and an upmarket restaurant serving meats (from the nearby Smithfield market) amongst other things. Pricey though but good view of the city. Attracts the arty type, the area being absolutely crammed with architectural practices and also bankers and lawyers who want to escape the souless City after work. Serves a mean breakfast in the morning, and a lifesaver when the clubbers from Fabric (next door) tumble out at 8am...
