overrated beyond any measure - unless you very specifically want to go see a particular band/act avoid this dank but otherwise charming venue as much as possible, for the privilege of £6 entry £10 if you arrive latter you get:

- the bar staff had been banned form making any cocktails except for barcardi ones served in a plastic cup for £5 which were pretty much useless except as a cleaning product

- even a humble mojito that i had to beg for them to make was execrable

- they tried to charge £2 for a small plastic cup of tap water

- the crowd, well you would have to be a mug to think that being utterly and ruthlessly exploited is a good way to spend a friday night

- the music is always hit and miss so for the second and final time that i have inflicted cargo upon myself it has been miss

its easy don't go

I heard about this place on The Remix on Xfm 104.90. I went to see the Scratch Perverts and the place was rammed. Even without the DJ's the venue is small but very cool. No dress code and all kinds of people, just the way it should be. All pretentious idiots should go elsewhere. Drinks are not expensive IMO. I will be going back very soon.

My friend and I went to Cargo last night after reading all the dazzling reviews and hearing rumors of it being a hot bar. This was a huge mistake. Apart from being hard to find and in a dark and dismal area, it was empty on a friday night! At 9 pm the cover charge is risen to 10 pounds. We arrived at 9:01 due to time spent trying to find this obscure location and the doormen still demanded the full charge. The few people that were there were ugly and uninteresting, not to mention overweight. There were no wineglasses and the dance floor was out of sight. The only redeeming factor of this dark, brick hellhole was the kind bartender.

Went there recently and got charged a tenner to get in at 9.15 which seemed a bit steep, even though it's open til 2. The live acts and DJs seemed to think they were better than they actually were and the music was a bit navel gazey. Drinks are extortionate even by London prices.

As we were leaving at 1am the manager was letting people in for half price which tells you something about the place. Make an effort, turn up early and drink in the bar all night and you get hit for full whack. Stumble up just before they close and they let you in no worries...a bit off if you ask me but hey that's Shoredirch.

I went to Cargo a while ago to see 'Soundtrack of out lives' and it was a pretty cool place. Obviously aimed at the Hoxton trendy (nowt wrong with that). The beer was a bit pricey but the staff were pretty much on the ball. It was packed, which becomes harder to tolorate as I get older! But a good night out none the less.

The fashionable hoxton posse have long moved on to more trendy climes, and this place is probably the nicer for it.

Some of the DJs are a bit shite and the music has become a bit too mainstream garage R&B orientated. Still better than nay club in the west end.
