Betjeman's

For me, this place works better as a wine bar - either for drinks and nibbles at lunch or as a place to gather after work (though it can be quite quiet unless you go with a group).
I do like the sandwiches you cann get here - crispy duck is a favourite but avoid the "Betjeman's" (chicken and bacon) which is dry and tough - or maybe I've just been unlucky!

If you're looking for a free meal in London, this is the place for you. My companion and I started with a bottle of Pinot Blanc (£16.95), which was lovely. We then had just a starter each. My companion's smoked duck garnished with the obligatory rocket (£5.50) was edible, but not very tasty. I ordered game and venison terrine with walnut toast and chutney (and, as it turned out, rocket) (£5.50). I got the toast and chutney, but the terrine looked and tasted suspiciously like chicken liver pate. As chicken liver pate goes, however, it wasn't bad and I was happy to eat it.
When the time came to pay the bill, I was intrigued to see that we had been charged £5.50 for a pate and not a terrine. After an enjoyable discussion with the head waitress about the relative merits and characteristics of terrines, pates, deer and chickens, she eventually went into the kitchen to ask the chef just what the hell I'd eaten. She came out and put our bill behind the bar, admitting that it had been chicken liver pate and this we took as our cue to exit, no doubt never to darken their doorstep again.
