The Phene Arms

The Swedes cooking in there are amazingly talented, for such a confused little boozer they've scored an ace there. They make a good hash of adding Scandic elements to a simple modern french menu, the prices are crazy low (at the moment) and if you like food and not spending too much money then I would highly recommend checking it out.
At these prices not everything is going to be right, but I can tell you the food more as likely will be spot on.

They've killed the hand pumps. All import and bottle now. Lost something in the transition imho. And if George still pops in, good for him.

What a load of s!?t the last review was!!
The pub is excellent..great people, great atmosphere and George Best DOES still go in there!
He was drinking there last Friday 11/06/04 and seemed to be enjoying himself along withe the rest of the people in the garden!!
I think it is one of the best (no pun intended!) pubs and area in Chelsea.

No longer the boozer of George Best - he did what many of the regulars would like to have done, and leapt over the bar and attacked the staff in a frenzied rage. He got barred after that, obviously.
Yep, it is another great old pub that has been the victim of a disastrous makeover. What makes it even worse is that the Phene really was a gem of a place. A great mix of thesps, locals, indie kids and dwarfish Irish footballing legends - it was one of a kind. Not no more tho' it's one of a hundred very similar, very expensive, cocktail joints. The sort that used to be confined to Fulham and Notting Hill but are spreading everywhere like a big rubbish cancer.
