Eagle Bar Diner

The Eagle Bar Diner needs to decide whether it's a bar or a restaurant. They give a huge amount of space over to a drinking area, which is largely deserted. The tables in the restaurant, however, are crammed together. A trip to the loo is a big drama as you will require all the surrounding diners to stand up and move too....
The night we ate there the place was reasonably busy but not ridiculously so. Despite this it still took the waiter an hour to take our order. They had also, somehow, managed to run out of fries - how on earth can this happen in a BURGER bar?!
The food, when it arrived, was overcooked and tasteless.
There are much better gourmet burger restaurants to eat than this one.
There is no non smoking section and, on the night we visited, the heating didn't appear to be working either.

The Eagle Bar has a strange ambience. It seems largely unknown to any 'locals' and, on the Saturday night we went, was practically empty. I was assured by the extremely friendly staff that this wasn't the norm, but unfortunately the main area, with it's expanse of floor, and smattering some late-night shoppers/tourists, gave the appearance of a YMCA drop-in cafe. The booths that line the interior are much better: cosy & intimate (I hope they get that stilletto rip in the leather fixed soon)
The cocktails are fabulous - fruity and potent and the food homely and ample. A definately good addition to the weekend bar-crawl, or a frightfully cosmopolitan, sophisticated feeling casual dining experience.
