The Ship

My fiancee and I went out of our way to locate The Ship as I am a Clash fanatic, and this venue is where Bernie Rhodes (Clash Manager) stressed to the band that he had to have 'complete control' in the running of The Clash. The band pissed themselves laughing and Joe Strummer wrote 'Complete Control' after Bernies quip!!
That aside, we were treated as regulars, you could feel the hospitality was genuine, but I was too absorbed in sitting in a place that reeked of punk history, and I was made for the day.
Toilets needed a make-over, pornographic graffiti was everywhere, but, hey...this is Soho!!

Every time I'm in London, I always try to make time for a visit to The Ship. People aren't wrong when they say it's the best pub in London. I was introduced to it by a friend, who recommended it as a suitable place for us to get together with friends of ours from all over the country prior to going on to gigs in central London, and fell in love with the place as soon as I saw it. It's usually lively, and can get quite packed after 5pm, so the best time to enjoy the place is mid-afternoon. Get there at lunchtime and you can have a decent meal too. The staff are always friendly, and even though I may only go in there three of four times a year (living in the Midlands, I'm not exactly local!), if it's Charlotte who serves me, I never have to tell her what I want, because she always remembers what it is I drink... Now THAT'S service!

The best boozer in central London and some! This is the legendary 'Rock'n'Roll pub, just up the road from the site of the old Marquee club, which is now Mezzo's (Booo!).
I've been in this place when the whole bar was pogoing (including the staff!).It's the only pub in London with a mixing desk behind the bar.You can hear anything from The Clash and Sex Pistols to The Cure or Franz Ferdinand. This is the pub that has been frequented by the likes of John Lennon,Syd Barrett,Jimi Hendrix and Kieth Moon.
Just roll up, say hello to the lovely Charlotte (manager), pull up a stool and while away the hours with Soho's finest Boho's!
